There are lots of writing prompts about on social media, on writers’ websites and on here - you don’t have to look very far. Currently I’m involved in an Ekphrastic challenge for April, curated by the tireless Paul Brookes. 12 poets, 3 artists, 30 days. It could seem like a lot of pressure, but I decided to view it as fun. My responses are sometimes immediate and sometimes more thoughtful and deliberated. The result is not perfect poetry, but maybe something that could be worked with at a later date, or maybe not. The joy is in the creation, the engagement, flexing the creative muscle. Whenever we write it makes us better, stronger writers, even if the output is not brilliance itself. It’s the same with art: a regular sketching or painting habit ultimately makes us better artists.
Is there a challenge you could embrace to stretch yourself? It doesn’t have to be poetry!
I include here, the first 3 poems. If you wish to see the art works that inspired them, check out Paul’s website here:
Your reminder to let me know, if you don’t wish to receive the poetry supplement to my publication.
Bubble away your stresses, take wings in the cool, purple night and fly. Your roots will keep you earthbound, but for this moment you can feel free. ****** Here they shoot crows leave nests empty. Black masses mourn on the wing. ***** I will be tree. I will grow your cherry blossom smile. Spring up in confetti molecules, return to dust.
Thankyou, Debbie
Cherry blossoms..... Beautiful.❤️
