New Year - Old Me
I’m re-hashing this post from last year because the ‘new year, new you emails have already begun.
It’s that time of year again. You’ll see people summarising the past year with all their achievements, highlighting how wonderful it’s been, or they’ve been, making the rest of us feel inadequate.
And the ‘new year new you’ emails and posts have already started. The body improvement brigade: lose weight, get fit, give up alcohol, meat, carbs…there is no end to ways you can feel bad about how you look or what you do!
Ignore it all, I say! January is a long dark month and 2023 has been a long dark year. Do what you need to survive. Drink, eat, hibernate and wrap what little warmth and happiness you can find around you like a fleecy blanket hug. January is a really bad time to try and create new habits. New habits need impetus and commitment and at this time of year I lack both. Why try and fail? Coorie up and wait for spring, like sensible members of the animal kingdom do. And plants. Even plants know what to do, when to try again with a new spurt of growth and life.
I’ll be tucked up writing and painting until it gets a bit brighter, lighter and warmer. I recommend you do the same.
P.S.
If curating your achievements over the last 12 months and making new year resolutions is your thing, go right ahead. You can ignore me too!
