He just told them what they wanted to hear. The Democrats didn't. It's the same here too. A left that has gone fishing for votes in 'communities' instead of doing what it's supposed to do. Remember Thatcher? She told people it was okay to be selfish, to look out for number one. So they voted for her, again and again.

Totally agree, Jane. Arguably Thatcher was the start of the decline of community and the rise of wealth-seekers. I’m old enough to remember ‘Yuppies’ and stock market crashes; the lie of trickle-down economics.

Unfortunately France and Italy are on a similar trajectory.

When you tell people it’s fine to be awful, there’s no limit to what you can get away with. Meloni hasn’t done a lot of damage (yet) in Italy. It’s possible she never really intended to. She’s not Salvini after all. In France the far right is balanced in terms of voters by the far left. The consequence is we haven’t had a government since the elections last summer. Trump has been a wake-up call. Maybe we’ll draw back from the abyss.

Maybe a non political party movement is needed but somehow this new hierarchy of an elite money profit machine needs exposure. Your short post on this helps. The Fed Min Wage has never gone up?!!

I think there are various movements already? I totally get where you’re coming from, but I think It’s hard to be a-political when you’re fighting the system.

According to the stat site I looked at, no! I’m sure there is variance, but no official increase in the minimum.

Thank you, Georgina, for reading and engaging. There are many like-minded people who value truth.

I like your article and yes we do need to speak out against this onslaught. But our democracies have not been fully functioning and this takes effort, involvement and change.

Thanks, Georgina. Democracy is broken to some extent. Proportional representation would certainly help as a tool against the rise of the right. You’re right of course, we need to be engaged to work for change, but it is possible.
