Debbie, Thank you for being real.

On Being Real a quote from : Margery Williams Bianco, The Velveteen Rabbit

Real isn't how you are made,' said the Skin Horse. 'It's a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real.'

'Does it hurt?' asked the Rabbit.

'Sometimes,' said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. 'When you are Real you don't mind being hurt.'

'Does it happen all at once, like being wound up,' he asked, 'or bit by bit?'

'It doesn't happen all at once,' said the Skin Horse. 'You become. It takes a long time. That's why it doesn't happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand.

An honest reflection Debbie, and one that does engender a response.

If we say what we think about our daily lives or what we've been doing, it will be read but may have few or no responses. It probably comes across as a diary entry.

But if we give of ourselves, show our human fears and frailties, then those same readers are more likely to respond, and in kind.

To give is to receive. Tis the way of connection.

Thank you, Glenn for giving your time to comment your wisdom and connect here. I suppose you’re right, although I don’t think I’d thought of it quite like that.

Debbie,

First and foremost, thank you for your writing. I enjoy your diverse outlook on life, be it the personal stuff, your love of nature through your poetry and photography, and also your sharing of 'things in life' that affect so many other people as well, in so many different ways.

It's good to know that although as humans we are each unique, we can still experience much of the sameness as we each negotiate our way through the hurdles put in our way.

I also love the way you always seem to be able to put a positive slant on things that you are obviously finding difficulty coping with.

I, for one, really look forward to your email with your latest topic.

I feel it's great to be real and express your woes and struggles, because we all go through it. Life is a roller coaster ride.

We don't always feel comfortable bearing our soul to many, but sometimes it's refreshing to know you and others help each other by sharing.

The world can be an ugly place, so finding a kindred spirit who wears their heart on their sleeve is a blessing in my book.

Kindness is sometimes hard to come by these days. So much, as I said ugliness around these days. Which saddens me.

I find your publications sometimes humorous, and a great read. So thank you for sharing.

Thank you so much, Michelle. I really appreciate you taking time to share your thoughts and comments. The world has so much hatred about, as you observe, so If I can spread a little bit of light or joy or connection from sharing how I feel, what I think and experience then it’s very worthwhile. That anyone is reading what I write, I find very humbling. x
