What an amazing and inspiring story. Resilience is something I highly value and aspire to. Sounds like your mum is a perfect example of developing resilience and a wonderful role model. It seems you and your sister have a beautiful relationship with her. Thank you for sharing so eloquently. ♥️
Thank so much, Julie. It’s kind of you to read and comment. You’re right, Doreen has always been a great role model.
Our relationship was not always been so good. My sister and I both felt abandoned as young children when she spent so much time in hospital and my sister probably was sent away to stay with friends. I think we both blamed her for being ill. Our parents didn’t communicate well or explain anything that was going on. Obviously as we’ve got older, we’ve understood things better and realised how hard her life was and how well she coped. I’m grateful we got the chance to develop a much better relationship over the last 30 years. My sister is now caring for our Mum and although it’s hard, she sees it as a privilege.
Happy Birthday to your Mum. As I was reading ‘indomitable’ came to mind; I hope that in some way you can share this writing with her. She looks and sounds like a wonderful lady.
I’ll see what my sister thinks. It’s difficult on the phone and I’ve just returned from a week with her, so won’t be seeing her on her birthday 🙁 I’ll let you know, if you’re interested- Thank you.

Thanks so much, Michela. I’ll pass on your message.
Indomitable is a great word, isn’t it?
Doreen was a great reader, before Dementia hit.Sadly, she can no longer see very well either. I think she would probably be bemused by this.
I was wondering how it might go if someone read it to her?

Your mother sounds an amazing woman! Happy Birthday Doreen!
Thanks so much, Lynn. I’ll pass on your greeting.
