I've never been a fan of superheroes, though my partner and his brother love superhero films. There just seems to be an endless parade of superheroes these days

Don't get you started? LOL! Here goes:

"What about DC Comics? (Superman, etc.)" [lighs touchpaper and stands well back] 🙉

Totally agree with what you've written and we know who the real heroes are. They're just "movies" to me; I don't associate them with the world or anything "real". I watch to see how far they can go with CGI, etc. and for the routine humour they're laced with.

Right, I'm off to watch "Captain America" again... 😂😂

True, but sadly, certain counties do see themselves as ‘the good guys’ righting the rest of the world. It’s embedded in the psyche and it’s the wrong narrative.

I agree with every word of that. It's a distillation of a mentality, the way a particular nation I won't name sees itself, fighting the good fight all over the world. They've finished with the commie bastards and they daren't name definite enemies now because the powerful enemies always end up being best buddies.

I'd also like to know why in every single fantasy world, not just the superhero fantasy, the men wear sensible clothes that cover them up and keep them warm while the women, even the odd one who leads armies into battle, has to do it in her knickers and an iron bra?

Quite! I think that’s a whole other article right there! I mean it’s sexualisation and sexism of course because men still mostly produce films. Thankfully there are more up and coming women, although it’ll be tough to ditch the stereotypes totally I guess. Scantily clad women sell movies.

Unfortunately there are still too many women who fall for that stereotype, assuming that femininity is an exhibition of desirable female flesh for men to gawp at. It’s even been brought within the ambit of feminism, calling it women’s freedom to exhibit themselves sexually without fear of being taken up on what looks to many men like an invitation. How do those feminists intend to age, have children, hip replacements? Seems to me they’re conforming to the ages old image that a woman in nothing except what a man perceives.

Succinctly put.
